About Meta Platforms Inc
Meta Platforms operates Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger and earns almost all of its revenue from advertising shown in these apps. Its Reality Labs segment develops virtual and augmented reality hardware and software, such as Quest headsets and smart glasses made with Ray-Ban, and has reported operating losses for years. The company was founded as Facebook in 2004 and renamed Meta in 2021. It is based in Menlo Park, California.
